We love cake. We really love cake. Over the years publishing "Sophisticated Weddings" Magazines we have incorporated a lot of cakes into our photo shoots and editorial and events. So on this day- National Cake Day- we are looking back on a few of our favorite cakes.

Dude- I will eat that cake!

We had a blast working with Janina Gavakar. In planning Janina's Tribeca Rooftop photo shoot, we decided to have some [wedding] cakes made that were inspired by the various dresses in which we photographed her. This one- above- was created by cake artist Madison Lee to go alongside that Monique Lhuillier dress.

At the time of the shoot, Janina was starring on NBC's "The Mysteries Of Laura". More recently, TV audiences have been watching her on Apple's "The Morning Show". We found out during the photo shoot that Janina shared our love of cake; we quote: "Dude- I will eat that cake!"

Jenna & Val from "Dancing With The Stars" at The Pierre

This isn't just one of our favorite cake photos... this is one of our favorite images we've ever published. When we photographed "Dancing With The Stars" pro's- and husband and wife- Jenna Johnson & Valentin Chmerkovskiy at New York's legendary Pierre Hotel, we decided to put the prancing pair in bed with a one tier wedding cake by Madison Lee.

...and it garnered some attention from outside of the weddings world too. See below for excerpts from "US Weekly" and "Daily Mail" featuring Jenna & Val's cake photo and behind-the-scenes as the image was photographed.

Torrey DeVito's cake at dawn on the cobblestones of Tribeca

This cake photo is from another Tribeca Rooftop photo shoot. In front of Tribeca Rooftop, actually. For "Chicago Med" star Torrey Devito's shoot we came up with a concept of a "bride" leaving her wedding after party, hitting the city streets as the sun rose, while enjoying some of her wedding cake. City Sweets & Confections' rose gold cake pops beautifully in this image.

"People" Magazine liked it too - they covered Torrey's shoot with exclusive first look behind-the-scenes images.

Christie Brinkley's Prosecco-infused Cake

ree

Christie Brinkley had just launched her Bellissima Prosecco a few months prior to our 2019 Release Party at Capitale. With Bellissima being a sponsor of the event, the supermodel / actor / philanthropist attended to check it out. When cake artist Denise Smith- owner of My Daughter's Cakes- learned that the Uptown Girl would be there, she decided to infuse Bellissima into her cake's flavor. As you can see from the image above, Christie approved!

This cake was so good, it was almost criminal

We've been lucky to photograph a lot of TV cops. For this shoot at The New York Botanical Gardens with "Law & Order: SVU" cast members Jamie Gray Hyder and Michael Trotter we decided to make sure the couple were well fed, since the (then) newlyweds told us that they are foodies. We enlisted City Sweets & Confections' to create a cake inspired by that sparkling gold blazer we put on Jamie.

Check out the video above. Hang in for the end when Jamie samples the cake and exclaims: "That is really good!" We were there. We witnessed Jamie continuing to eat more of the gold cake after the video stopped.

Lindsey & Shaun got some cake practice

We photographed Shaun Sipos and Lindsey Morgan at The Glasshouse just few months prior to their actual wedding. The gorgeous couple agreed that everything we had them doing that day felt like practice for their upcoming wedding; the clothes, the kissing, the dancing... and the cake! City Sweets & Confections created this cake (above) inspired by Lindsey's sparking silver dress.

Sneaking a slice of cake... in a bathtub

ree

A few thoughts went into the concept of the above photo of "Next Top Model" star Louisa Warwick eating a slice of cake in the bathtub of a suite at OHEKA CASTLE. First, very often, brides do not get to eat much during their own weddings. And they're ravenous by the time the wedding is over. Second, very often, weddings that happen in hotels have an after party. Whether planned or unplanned, the couple's friends will follow them up to the bridal suite.

We envisioned an exhausted- but elated- and hungry bride looking to steal a quiet moment away from her guests... and eat some cake.

Happily eating cake

We were so excited to photograph bride-to-be Eva Amurri with her (then) eight year old daughter, Marlowe, at The Castle. It was to be Marlowe's first photo shoot. How could be not have cake for her? But not just any cake. This had to be special. That is why we called the Sweet Genius, Ron Ben-Israel.

The after party cake

ree

Once again, hotel weddings often have an after party up in the bridal suite. "Dancing With The Stars" fans known professional dance wife Brylee Armstrong quite well from seeing her on the popular show, cheering on her husband, Brandon. Of course, we also known Brylee & Brandon from their "Sophisticated Weddings" magazine cover.

For this Intercontinental New York Barclay Hotel photo shoot with the infinitely adorable Bylee- our second shoot with her- we were going for after party vibes. And we needed an after party cake. A cake that wasn't just sweet, but also sexy. We tasked City Sweets & Confections with creating this deep red work of sugary perfection.

FUN FACT: after capturing the above image, while Brylee was dressing for the next shot and getting her hair and makeup touchups, the rest of the crew on hand devoured what remained of that gorgeous red velvet cake.

The flower girl cake

ree

The flower girl deserves her own cake. She did her job well, and her own personal cake should be her compensation. Plus, it will make her feel special... and keep her (and any other half-sized guests) a little occupied during the wedding reception.

We photographed this flower girl cake by My Daughter's Cakes at The Legacy Castle.

FUN FACT: the venue owner's granddaughter served as the flower girl for this photo shoot.
